Sphere of hope

After a successful event at Spike Open, I was casual about the success of what was poured in front of everyone.  The purpose of the event, for me, was really to show people the process.  I often find to reveal the methodologies to others generates some interesting questions and debate.  I hoped to cast a sculpture of a simple sphere but as Dave, Steve and I poured the molten basalt, it didn’t seem to flow into the mould (even with the little added flux).  I thought nothing more of it and felt happy that many people had enjoyed and engaged with the pour.  After letting it cool for two days I thought it was time to open the mould and to my surprise and delight I unearthed my first sphere.  Albeit fragile with many a bubble this is an improvement on all the casting so far.
